Photography Mentoring Days for Schools

Giving students a practical insight into understanding the role and responsibilities of a professional photographer

The Opportunity

The day is designed to give students valuable insight into working in the industry with real responsibility to deliver images that their school can then use.

Schools have the option to choose either an events-based day or one centred around a portraiture project.

The Experience

Students will come away with a range of practical skills and knowledge.

They will learn how to prepare for a shoot, work with a client and meet their expectations, how to conduct themselves on the day and consider challenges they might face.

They will develop their superpower of looking through analysing work by other photographers and receiving guidance on composition and how to maximise available light.

They will also develop their communication skills by working closely together in small groups throughout the day.

The mentoring day is aimed at students who have an interest in photography or want to learn more about pursuing a career in the creative industries.

Students do not need to currently be studying photography, though having a basic technical knowledge can be helpful.

The day is aimed at students from Year 9 - 13 and can be run with a mixed age group.

Students can either be from an individual school, or where a school is part of a trust or larger education group, can be from multiple schools.

Who is this for?

Kind Words

“Hi, I was one of the Year 10 Photography students that was taking pictures of the competition in London, and I just really felt the need to tell you that I had an unbelievable amount of fun that day and I learned so much from you, my GCSE coursework has massively improved since that day because of what you taught me so I really just have to say thank you so much!! It was so awesome meeting you and being taught by you and you’re such an inspiration to me :) that day was definitely a highlight of the year.”

“Creative Education Trust have worked with Becky both as a photographer for our projects and a leader of pupil workshops.

Her warm and friendly attitude puts both photographic subjects and tutored students at ease, and has left to exceptional photographs. To date, Becky’s fantastic photography has been a focal point for two of our publications (‘Ten Years of Creative Education:Alumni tell the story’ and ‘Our Town’ community projects) and we look forward to continuing our working partnership with her.
